Ways to prepare your outdoor space for spring

The nights are getting lighter by the week and although we’re still very much in the depths of winter, we can’t help looking forward to the approaching spring. In fact, preparing our outdoor space for the warmer weather and lighter evenings is a great way to help get us in the springtime mood.

Prepare the decking

With the harsh elements of the winter, decking can need some serious TLC when by the time the spring arrives. To make sure your decking is in a functional order when the spring arrives and to ensure it looks attractive, give it a thorough inspection.

Check for the likes of cracked boards, dislodged tiles and broken decking. Power washing the decking will remove the excess dirt, debris and grime from the boards so it’s in safe working order for the socialising and entertaining ahead.

Painting or using a deck stain can help inject some life into your decking are after winter has taken its toll. As can using decking oils, which penetrate and waterproof the timber.

Incorporate an outdoor cooking area

As we anticipate the better weather, now’s the time to turn your outdoor area into a functional living space by installing an external cooking area.

From a flamboyant outdoor cocktail bar to a simpler barbecue with adjacent seating, the choice is yours when it comes to the look and design of an area geared towards ‘al fresco’ wining and dining.

Add lighting
