Ideas for focal points in a living room without a fireplace
Fireplaces have long been regarded the focal point of a living room. But what if your lounge doesn’t have one? There are plenty of other options to create a cosy and inspiring focal point without relying on a fireplace. Here’s how.
Install a bioethanol fireplace
Have the cosiness of a fireplace without the hassle of maintaining it by installing a bioethanol fire in your home. Bioethanol fireplaces feature real flames but, without emitting smoke, do not require a flu or chimney. They are a cleaner, safer and more environmentally friendly way to enjoy a real fire. They work by bioethanol fuel being squeezed into a burner box. Once the fuel is lit, a beautiful nature flame emerges within minutes, creating a stunning focal point without an actual fireplace.
Fake it with a faux fireplace
Victorian properties and older townhouses often have fireplaces that have long been boarded up and have become obsolete. Traditional hearths are often still intact, which are crying out to be adorned and made the most of. Fill internal space with candles, ceramics, and flowers to bring this focal point to life. Drape fairy lights around the hearth and enjoy those cosy nights in by your faux fireplace.
Create a feature wall
There is nothing quite like an eye-catching feature wall to bring a living room to life. Really go to town with funky artwork, outsized prints, and striking designs and colours. In older properties, highlight original architecture, such as brick or stone. In newer homes, hang large-scale art, oversized mirrors, or texture a wall, to create a focal point with the wow factor.
Install a media unit
Another fireplace alternative is a media unit, providing the perfect place to lounge about and enjoy some entertainment. Make a large TV the standout feature of your media unit, for plenty of movie nights in with the family.
Install under shelf lighting to craft a cosy, atmospheric look, and other bespoke elements like tailored storage for a touch of luxury in your home.
